Additional Information |
Likely to have belonged to an Anglophone collector before 1946, possibly in England or the United States, as the inscriptions on the back of the canvas regarding placement in a room are all in English ("DINING ROOM", "BACK OF DOOR" and "1 TOP"). One of two nearly identical paintings by Gauguin, this one probably given by the artist in 1882 to Emile Armand Bertaux, Paris.
