Research into cultural property missing from
The library was almost completely destroyed during a bombing raid on 29/30 January 1944. One-fifth of its collection was lost. The majority of the library's collection had already been placed into storage at Bellichen/ Oder (near Berlin) in 1943. This collection was removed by the Soviet Army in 1945. A small part of the collection which had been placed into a different storage location formed the basis for the rebuilding of the library collection after the Second World War. The library has not compiled a detailed list of its missing collection, whose fate remains unknown.
