Description
A two-day seminar organised by the Training Initiative for Specialised Scientific Libraries and Related Institutions (Initiative Fortbildung für wissenschaftliche Spezialbibliotheken und verwandte Einrichtungen e.V.) in cooperation with the Anna Amalia Library (Weimar) and the Coordination Office for Lost Cultural Assets (Magdeburg).
The seminar planned to address the reasons and motivations for undertaking provenance research and provide practice-based examples and guidelines for researching and documenting provenance in libraries. The seminar papers covered topics including: the political, historical and scientific background of provenance research; the deliberate blurring of provenances, looted books and guidelines for identifying such books; how libraries today are dealing with the issue of looted books and restitution; and techniques and examples of provenance research in libraries.
