Gerard Aalders

Gerard Aalders (1946) is a senior researcher at the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD). He has published a trilogy on looting and restitution in the Netherlands:  Roof (1999), Berooid (2001) and Eksters (2002) and further numerous articles. He is also the author of an extensive report (1998) on looting and restitution for the Netherlands government. His books include, in English: Swedish Neutrality and the Cold War, 1945-1949 1989; The Art of Cloaking Ownership: The Secret Collaboration and Protection of the German War Industry by the Neutrals, 1996, co-author Cees Wiebes; and in Dutch: Roof. De ontvreemding van joods bezit tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog 1999, on the looting of Jewish property during the Second World War, English translation by Berg Publishers, Oxford, German edition Geraubt 2000, Berooid. De beroofde joden en het Nederlandse restitutiebeleid sinds 1945 2001 on Dutch restitution policy since 1945; and Eksters: de Nazi-roof van 146,000 kg goud bij De Nederlandsche Bank and the looting of Dutch monetary gold and its partial post-war restitution.
