Richard Aronowitz will discuss the background to the work of Sotheby’s Restitution department, which was founded in late 1997, and outline some of the most interesting cases of loss and recovery that he has been a part of in the almost one and a half decades that he has worked in provenance research and restitution. 

Richard Aronowitz first joined Sotheby's in October 1997 and is now a Senior Director and the European Head of Restitution. His novels are An American Decade (2017), It’s Just the Beating of my Heart (2010) and Five Amber Beads (2006) and his debut poetry collection, Life Lessons, appeared in April 2019. He has written essays and reviews on art for The Jewish Chronicle, Lund Humphries, Modern Painters, Oxford University Press and Skira, amongst others.
