On 10 July 2012 the Bavarian State Paintings Collections announced the restitution of this painting to the heirs of Julius Kien, a Viennese industrialist. It had been in the possession of the Collections since 1992, having been acquired from the collection of industrialist Fritz Thyssen who purchased it in 1938 after a forced sale. This is only the ninth painting restituted by the Bavarian Collections since 1999.
