Collection
Record Group 314-15 Chief Finance President Hamburg (Bestand
314-15 Oberfinanzpräsident Hamburg) in the Hamburg State Archives (Staatsarchiv Hamburg)

Description
These
archival records contain documentation relating to the persecution, in particular the fiscal plundering, of Jews in Hamburg under the Nazi regime.

They include documents on the seizure of the assets of deported Jews and the seizure of the property of Jewish emigrants which was stored in the port of Hamburg.  They also contain documentation compiled in connection with post-war claims, including an alphabetical inventory of seized Jewish property auctioned in 1941-1943 whose proceeds were transferred to the Gestapo.

After the war, the Oberfinanzpräsident Hamburg (whose name changed to the Oberfinanzdirektion Hamburg in 1950) represented the German Reich as defendant in post-war reparation claims in Hamburg.

The finding aid in the State Archives Hamburg is a helpful research tool and is currently only available at the State Archives.  It will be available online soon.
