Title

Archives de la Ville de Paris

Subject
Records of some of the Commissaires-Priseurs (Public Auctioneers)

Description
These archives include records of some of the commissaires-priseurs (auctioneers) of public auctions in France. These records contain "procès verbaux," or transcriptions of activities of the auctions, as well as information about buyers and sellers. The archives include a detailed index of records held on site, which allows researchers to verify whether a specific auctioneer's document for a specific date is at the archives. The records also include a chronological register of sales between 1939-1948.

Permission to access the files and documents of a particular auctioneer must be obtained in advance from him or his current business descendant. To obtain the name and address of the business descendant, contact:
Syndicat des Commissaires-Priseurs de Paris
9, rue Drouot
75009 Paris, France
Tel.: +33 1 48 00 20 20
Fax: +33 1 48 00 20 73

Only after permission has been given researchers are allowed to consult the documentation available at the archives or its annex in Villemoisson.
