Description
The Department of State and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum hosted the Washington Conference on Holocaust-Era Assets at the Department of State in 1998. The Conference was attended by delegates from forty-four countries as well as a number of non-governmental bodies. The participants addressed issues surrounding the restitution of assets confiscated during the period 1933-45. The role of Holocaust education, remembrance, and research was also considered. Eleven principles for dealing with Nazi-confiscated art were endorsed.
